The Valley of Flowers & Hemkund Trek
Day 01 Reporting at Rishikesh
Reach /Reporting at Rishikesh by 7.30 pm and check in the hotel for night stay. Dinner will be served after room allocation. After having dinner, pack luggage according to the further program and sleep early as we need to travel next day a lot from early morning.
Day 02 Rishikesh to Joshimath (250 km – 8 to 9 hours)
Wake up early morning get ready and start travelling towards Joshimath. It takes around 9 hours to reach Joshimath (6200 ft) as we travel through mountains and valleys and also take few breaks for sight seeing and food. We get to see all the ‘Panch Payag” (Dev Prayag, Rudra Prayag, Karna Prayag, Nand Prayag and Vishnu Prayag) on the way where different tributaries join Alaknanda River to form holly River GANGA. We reach Joshimath by 4 pm. Joshimath is one of the beautiful and well developed town of the region. One can spend some time on market street. Overnight at Joshimath.
Day 03 Joshimath to Pulna (20 km by road) to Ghangria (10 km trek)
We start our day early as we are going to start our trek from today. Post breakfast we travel 20 km till Govindghat/Pulna (7100 ft) by vehicles and start trek from here. The rout goes through the beautiful forest and the Byundar Valley along with the Laxman Ganga River. This trek is a bit hectic and lengthy but the landscapes rejuvenate and motivate us to step forward towards the destination. After a long trek we reach Ghangria (10200 ft) by 3:30 pm. Hot tea and snacks will be served on arrival and rooms will be allotted. Dinner will be served early as it will be a tiring and long day. Good rest will help to get acclimatized and restore energy.
Day 04 Ghangria to Valley of Flowers and back (10km/9hrs)
After early breakfast we start walking towards our main part of trek, the Valley of Flowers National Park. The altitude ranges between 10400 to 12200 ft. After half a km we enter the national park and from the beginning only we start seeing the different species of flowers and plants. After a three km trek, we enter the core part of valley and go further 2 km to explore the more varieties as particular flowers blooms in particular places or areas. We also visit the grave of Margaret Legge, a botanist who died there during her research. After spending a good time in the valley we trek back to Ghangria by 5 pm. We can see a slide show about valley flowers conducted by Eco Development Committee (EDC) and forest department. We finish our dinner early as again we need to wake up early for our biggest trek to Hemkund Sahib.
Day 05 Ghangria to Hemkund and back (12km/9hrs)
Today also we start ascending after early breakfast as we need to reach at Hemkund in time. The altitude of the lake is 13700 ft. On the way we can see some different variety of flowers which we can not see in the valley of flowers, such as ‘Bramha Kamal’ the state flower of Uttarakhand. As we go up and up we get vast view of the Bhyundar valley. Once we reach at Hemkund, the ‘Sevaks’ serve us hot tea and delicious ‘Dal Khichadi’. After ‘Darshan’ we spend about an hours there for photography and visit holy Hemkund Lake, one of the most beautiful lake of the Himalayas. We start descending by 2 pm and reach at Ghangria by 5 pm. We get free time till dinner. Post dinner we need to pack our luggage before go to sleep as we are going to leave the place in the morning.
Day 06 Ghangria to Pulna (10 km trek) to Badrinath (25 km by road)
Post breakfast we say good buy to this beautiful part of Himalaya and start descending towards Govindghat. We have lunch at Govindghat and proceed to Badrinath by vehicle and by 4 pm we reach Badrinath (10000 ft). After getting fresh in hotel we go to roam around the religious town. We get to see the beautiful Neelkanth Peak from here. We can have bath in ‘Tapt Kund’, a sulfur spring water tank before entering the Badrinath Temple. After Darshan we have dinner in a restaurant and walk back to hotel.
Day 07 Visit Mana Village (3 km by road) Travel to Joshimath (50 km by road)
We go to visit Mana, the last Indian village towards China border. Its a small but very uniquely situated village on the bank of Alaknanda River. It is famous for its heritage and mythological importance. People go here to visit Ganesh and Vyas cave, Bhim Pool and his temple, and the origin of river Saraswati. We can see and buy hand loomed woolen shawls, blankets and mats from the locals. We come back to Badrinath, have lunch, take our luggage and travel back to Joshimath. Keep our luggage in hotel and go to visit Auli by cable car. Auli is famous for Skiing activities and magnificent view of snow capped peaks like Gigantic NandaDevi, Dronagiri, Mana, Nilgiri, Hathi and many more. The Rope way is Asia’s highest and the longest which every one should experience. Drinking hot tea in cold and breezy weather is a pleasure. We come back to Joshimath for night stay.
Day 08 Joshimath to Rishikesh (250 km – 8 hrs)
We start our return journey in the morning. It takes around 8 hours to reach Rishikesh. We can go to attend Ganga Arati at Paramarth Niketan and visit Ram Jhula. Dinner will be arranged in Chotiwala Restaurant. We will go to hotel for night stay.
Day 09 Adjustment Day/Free Day
Post breakfast program concludes. This day we keep spare as adjustment day to utilise in case we need to spend on more day in the mountains due to land slides and road blocks or any other natural calamities.
One can visit Dehradun or Mussoorie on their own if they get the day free. Board train/flight for delhi from Haridwar or Dehradun.
